North Star Burger

This is the North Star Burger from North Star Café. Makes sense right? The picture is a little sloppy because I almost started eating it and then I remembered that I needed to take a picture. Their original plating looked a lot better than the mess pictured above. The picture is fuzzy and in bad light, but oh well.

The menu description is, "Just made with organic brown rice, black beans and beets, topped with white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion + simple salad". I specify vegan when I order it, so there is no cheese. A friend of mine ordered it without specifying vegan and she got a different bun, too. I thought mine looked better anyway.

This is probably the best veggie burger that I have ever had, it has a great smokiness to it. It's almost a shame to use the same words to describe this burger and a boca burger. I think the side salad is fantastic, as well. My friend Josh, a vegetarian, didn't like the dressing on the salad, though.

I don't frequent North Star Café because it's pricey (this meal costs $11 but it's a pretty big burger) and this is the only 'true' vegan option. There are other items on the menu that can be made egg and dairy free, but most have honey (their peanut and bbq sauces both do). So, unfortunately this veg friendly restaurant has only 1 menu item acceptable to me, like so many other restaurants.
